Subhanallah

This song is not actually a Dalis Car song (Mick does not play any of the instruments here). It was previewed in a slightly updated version of 1980’s The Grid (which starred Peter Murphy) during the Just For Love Tour. The song itself received a proper release on InGladAloneNess. Subhanallah itself is a dervish prayer in Turkish. Shengul joins Peter in singing the prayer.

Subhanallah
Sultan Allah
Tüm dertlere derman Allah
Ben eyledim hadsiz günah
Cürmüm ile geldim sana

Subhanallah
Sultan Allah
Tüm dertlere derman Allah
Ben eyledim hadsiz günah
Cürmüm ile geldim sana

Senden utanmadim heman
Ettim hata gizli ayan
Vurma yüzüme el aman
Cürmüm ile geldim sana

Senin adin Gaffar iken
Ayb örtücü Settar iken
Kime gidem sen var iken
Cürmüm ile geldim sana

Subhanallah
Sultan Allah
Tüm dertlere derman Allah
Ben eyledim hadsiz günah
Cürmüm ile geldim sana

This is a rough translation of the dervish prayer (kindly provided by Eren Sembolik and Havva Brownstein. Peter at one time posted his own translation on his Facebook, but it seems to have been lost to time now that his profile was converted over to a fan page):

Praise be to God
The sultan God
The remedy to all troubles
I committed a crime (crime without a limit)
I came to you with my sin

Praise be to God
The sultan God
The remedy to all troubles
I committed a crime (crime without a limit)
I came to you with my sin

I don’t panic, ashamed
Of the very clear error I’ve hidden
Pounding my face with my hands, oh God
I came to you with my sin

While your name was Gaffar [a male Muslim name of Arabic origin]
Settar [another name] the one covering sins
Who else would I go to when there is you
I came to you with my sin

Praise be to God
The sultan God
The remedy to all troubles
I committed a crime (crime without a limit)
I came to you with my sin
