Peter Murphy and David J to Embark on Bauhaus 40th Anniversary “Ruby” Tour

PETER MURPHY

Announces tour dates celebrating 40 years of Bauhaus – Ruby Celebration featuring David J

Peter Murphy will be joined by Bauhaus co-founding member and featured guest David J for a series of shows in Europe and the UK with more to be announced. They will play In The Flat Field in its entirety plus an extended encore of Bauhaus classics. Later this year, a series of coloured vinyl Bauhaus reissues will be released, more details TBA.

Originally formed in England in 1978, pioneering post-punk band Bauhaus carved out a singular musical niche combining minimalism, art school rock and dark glam, with a huge dose of their own experimentalism, originality and verve. Unswervingly bleak in their approach, they released their break-out hit “Bela Lugosi’s Dead” in 1979, an astonishing slice of brooding imagination.

They were signed to 4AD and released their debut album In The Flat Field in 1980, before moving on to release three further records via Beggars Banquet (Mask – 1981, The Sky’s Gone Out – 1982 and Burning From The Inside – 1983).

Although brief, their career was hugely influential and resonated across the decades. The band split in the early 1980s (but reformed briefly a few times throughout the years) and band members went on to focus on other projects such as Love and Rockets and Tones On Tail. Peter Murphy continues to enjoy a successful solo career, spectacularly celebrated with the recently released 5-CD box containing his Beggars Banquet releases.

The forthcoming tour celebrates 40 years since the formation of Bauhaus – featuring two original members, vocalist Peter Murphy and bassist David J.

UPDATE: Less Than A Month Until San Francisco…

Peter Murphy San Francisco Residency Poster

That’s correct – we’re under one month to go until Peter Murphy’s 16-night residency at San Francisco’s The Chapel! Covering nearly all his solo repertoire (note that Unshattered and Lion will not be performed in their entirety, but some pieces from Lion will likely make their return for the Stripped night as a few were included in the original tour from 2016), the residency ends with a spectacular three night reprise of the Mr. Moonlight Tour (the full-Bauhaus set) but with a major twist – Bauhaus original bassist David J will be joining for all three nights!

Tickets were originally sold out for all the Deep nights and the Mr. Moonlight nights, but a limited number have been released by The Chapel for purchase. If you plan to go to any of those nights, do NOT wait to buy a ticket as they will sell quickly! Additionally, VIP **upgrades** (no ticket included for the actual show) are still available for Feb. 14 and 15 and include access to the soundcheck, meet and greet with both Peter Murphy and David J, and early entry to the venue.

Purchase tickets for the residency today from www.thechapelsf.com.

We’ve also been informed that a special item may be available for purchase from the merchandise table during these shows (said item will be available at a later date for those who cannot attend). We don’t know if the item will be pre-signed and available that way only during the residency and we’re not yet allowed to divulge what the item is, but we think it’ll be well worth it!

UPDATE: David J To Join Peter Murphy For Special Bauhaus-Only Sets

On the heels of some reassuring news that the Peter Murphy residency in San Francisco will indeed happen during January and February of 2018, something even more exciting was announced – David J, original Bauhaus bassist, will be joining Peter on stage for three nights only to do the Mr. Moonlight (all-Bauhaus) sets! These special occasions will mark the first time the two have played on the same stage since the last Bauhaus reunion ended in 2006. Furthermore, very limited quantities of VIP upgrades will be available for these three nights. Upgrades include:

  • Access to soundcheck
  • Meet and greet with both Peter and David
  • Early entry to the venue
  • Commemorative t-shirt

Please note – the VIP upgrade is just that – an upgrade. It does NOT include the actual ticket for the show (which must be bought separately).

Tickets can be bought from The Chapel’s website at www.thechapelsf.com. Full dates below:
