Third Uncle (Live)

This song was originally written by Brian Eno for his 1974 album Taking Tiger Mountain (By Strategy). As with most of the Bauhaus covers, the song retains much of the same style and form as Eno’s original, only opting for a heavier sound. This is a more recent live performance Bauhaus did. This is from Lisbon, Portugal, on November 14, 1998. Credit to Mehr Licht! for the upload.

There are tins
There are sports
There are legs
There are sharks
There was John
There are hips
There was nothing
But despite
There was you
Then there was you

There are scenes
There are blues
There are boots
There are shoes
There are Turks
There are fools
They’re in lockers
They’re in schools
They’re in you
Then there was you

I burn my fingers
Burn my toes
Burn my uncle
Burn his books
Burn his shoes
Cook his leather
Put it on
Just in case there was you
Just to hide it from you

Burn my fingers
Burn my toes
Burn my uncle
Burn his books
Burn his shoes
Cook the leather
Burn his legs
Just in case there was you
Then there was you

There are tins
There are sports
There are legs
There are sharks
There is wrong
There is right
There was nothing there in spite
There was you
Then there was you

There are scenes
There are blues
There are boots
There are shoes
There are Turks
There are fools
They’re in lockers
They’re in schools
They’re in you
Then there was you

Burn my toes
Burn my uncle
Burn his books
Burn his shoes
Cook his leather
Put it on
Just in case there was you
Just to keep it from you

I burn my books
Burn my toes
Burn my luck
Burn my books
Burn his shoes
Cook his leather
Don’t give up
Just to keep it from you
Just to keep it from you

Burn my fingers
Burn my toes
Burn my uncle
Burn his books
Burn his shoes
